AHOYYYY!!! We’re coming back at you with the 🔥 boat names!!!
What’s in a name? Well, when it comes to boats, a lot! After all, this is your baby we’re talking about. You’ve spent countless hours and hard-earned dollars making her look just right. So when it comes time to christen her with a name, you want something that really reflects her personality. Whether you’re looking for something funny, clever, or just plain cool, there are plenty of great boat names out there to choose from. And trust us, the name you choose can say a lot about you as a boater.
From rum-runners to party boats, there’s a little something for everyone. And if you’re still stumped, don’t worry—we’ve got some tips on how to choose the perfect boat name for your new vessel. So without further ado, let’s get started!
Here are some of the best boat names we’ve curated by theme for you.
Alcohol-Themed Boat Names
If you’re looking for a boat name that will make people do a double-take, an alcohol-themed boat name is always a good choice. After all, what’s more fun than drinking on a boat? Some of our favorites include “Rum Row” “Beer drinking bitchin’ time II,” and “Last Call.” Just be prepared for some unwanted attention from the authorities if you choose one of these names!
Clever Boat Names
If you’re looking for something a little more clever, there are plenty of options out there for you too. We love “The Abyss,” “Second Boat,” and “Boaty McBoatface.” (Although we have to admit, the latter is more clever in theory than it is in practice!)
Funny Boat Names
And then there are the truly funny boat names. These are the ones that will have everyone at the dock laughing. Our favorites include “Die-Hard Fan,” “pontoon party barge IV,” and “Naked Women.” But be warned: with a funny boat name comes great responsibility. After all, you don’t want to be known as the guy with the stupid boat name!

But if you have a fishing boat you’ll probably just name it something lame like ‘Anne IV’ (not the best name) … no offense if you’re into the female names. We tried to limit the double entendre but of course given the title we leaned into the alcohol boat names. And as always we stayed away from bad luck names, or did we?? (insert evil laugh here). Full disclosure, I didn’t put any thought in when coming up with my own boat name but took the name that came from the original owner, “Venture”. As I was sailing through New York and hailing on the VHF it felt very “Un-ME” rolling off my tongue. I’ve recently been inspired to think about what I want my boat’s name to be. Of course, the type of boat matters. I don’t have a pontoon boat and I’m not into fast boats (at the moment). I also want to consider the name could draw unwanted attention from a patrol boat or the US Coast Guard. I obviously want a name that is good luck.
The best part for me is going to be changing out the name plates for some illuminated decals. They’re going to look absolutely fire out on the high seas! So with a little help from my first mate (Jo-Jo) and the beer drinkers on the dock I’m sure I can churn out some good names.
No matter what kind of vibe you’re going for with your boat name, there’s sure to be something out there that fits the bill. So have a lot of fun with it and enjoy coming up with something that’s uniquely yours. And who knows? Maybe your boat name will become legendary in its own right someday! Remember to limit the alcohol use when coming up with your boat name. Well, maybe not but at least when you file the paperwork. The perfect name is out there even if it’s not one of the funniest boat names.
